Quinte Educational Museum & Archives
Welcome to the Quinte Educational Museum and Archives Website. We are currently located in the former Ameliasburgh Council Chambers at 13 Coleman Street in Ameliasburg. Containing a wealth of artifacts, books, school photographs, and documents ranging from old music sheets to government letters, QEMA's Archives preserve the character and history of Ontario education as found primarily in Prince Edward County. This collection is being updated on an ongoing basis and we continue to work toward providing resources to the community and assistance to formal and informal researchers. We are open daily from the Victoria Day Weekend until Labour Day Weekend from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm. Closed Mondays and Thursdays. Appointments may be arranged outside these times by calling our office at 613-966-5501.
The Victoria Schoolhouse
Built in 1904 and closed in 1966, the Victoria Schoolhouse was used for storage on the Montgomery Farm from 1966 until the Montgomery family donated the structure to the Quinte Educational Museum and Archives in 2003. Now restored, the Victoria Schoolhouse is again a centre of education and community pride and joins the ranks of a limited number of one-room schools in the province restored for educational use of students and the general public. We offer educational programming for students from the May 24th Weekend until the end of June, as well as special activity days for students during the summer months in addition to programs in conjunction with the adjacent Pioneer Village. You can follow the journey of this little one-room schoolhouse on our photo & history tour page. Perhaps it will stir a memory or inspire you to pack up the family and and come and experience the 'good old days' of the one-room schoolhouse. The Victoria Schoolhouse is located at the Ameliasburg adjacent to the Ameliasburgh Historical Museum & Pioneer Village. QEMA's Mission Statement
